St. Elias Melkite Catholic Church

St. Elias was established in the late 1970s as a mission of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church to serve Christian immigrants from the Levant (e.g., Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, and the Sudan). Initially located in Fremont, CA, the church recently moved into a new property in Hayward, CA, and serves individuals and families from diverse backgrounds who are attracted by the "light of the East," the particular form of worship, spirituality, and communal life that characterizes Eastern Christianity.

Participation in the Eucharistic celebration at our Sunday Divine Liturgy and on Major Feast Days is the source of our spiritual life. We welcome visitors to join us on those occasions or to get in touch with us to learn more about our faith, traditions, and church activities. Note that we are currently in pastoral transition and without a permanent priest. We therefore are not always able to hold a Eucharistic celebration every Sunday. Please consult the calendar on our home page or send us an email if you plan to attend for the first time.

The Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Antioch is one of the 23 sui iuris (autonomous) Eastern Churches in full communion with the Church of Rome and which, together with the Latin Church, form the global Catholic Church. We exist under the care and guidance of our Bishop Francois Beyrouti, Eparch of Newton. To find out more about us, we invite you to click on our FAQ page, consult our leaflets, or visit our diocesan website.
